The Hungarian Self-governing National Community is implementing the Program for the Advancement of the Economic Base of the Hungarian National Community 20172020, which is aimed at developing the economic base of the region inhabited by members of the Hungarian autochthonous national community, which means creating new jobs and preserving existing ones, establishing new infrastructure and modernising existing, and increasing the attractiveness of the area to tourists. The program consists of four measures: Promoting investment in the economy, Promoting tourism activities and products, Co-financing projects with approved European funds, Area promotion and support for the implementation of the program.

The program is intended for the ethnically mixed areas in Pomurje, more precisely the eastern part of the Pomurje region, which extends to the area near the Hungarian border, where members of the autochthonous Hungarian national community reside. The following municipalities are included: Šalovci, Hodoš, Moravske Toplice, Dobrovnik, Lendava. The area is surrounded by a variety of tourist attractions, and the number of tourists visiting is growing every year.  A rich Hungarian-Slovenian bilingual culture, folk tradition, gastronomic specialties and wines, active tourism options and healing thermal water offer a variety of experiences for every visitor.
