Strudel Day in Čentiba

Retaši, or the filo pastry dish commonly known as strudel, has a rich tradition in Prekmurje, as it is considered the compulsory dessert after various feasts. The aforementioned fact led to the idea that this tradition should be preserved and, in Čentiba, people acted upon it. That is how the all-day culinary event, ‘Praznik retašev’ or ‘Strudel Day’ came into being and was held for the first time in 2018.

What do the organisers have to offer to participants and visitors? They hold competitions in retaš making that are open to individuals, societies, professionals and amateurs, and fill Čentiba with the delicious and sweet scents of freshly baked retaš. In front of the village hall, there is an all-day cultural programme and entertainment with the cooperation of zither bands, folk dancers and folk singers.
