Dr. Oskar Laubhaimer

Dr. Oskar Laubhaimer was born in 1851, in Mattersburg (Austria), as the second child of József Laubhaimer Sr. and Borbála Krizmanits. He finished his secondary education in Sopron and continued his studies as a student of law in Bratislava. In 1875, he was registered at the Chamber of Law in Sopron as a lawyer candidate. In the same year, he was also registered at the King´s Chamber of Public Notaries in Szombathely. After successfully passing his bar exam, he started work as a lawyer but eventually became a notary. On behalf of the Minister of Justice, he was named notary of Dolnja Lendava in 1885.

He led his notary office with the utmost professional knowledge. He drew up documents in Hungarian as well as German and, when needed, he also employed a Slovenian interpreter. Apart from his notarial work, Laubhaimer was very active in the formation of the bourgeois lifestyle in Dolnja Lendava. Among other things, he planned to incorporate his apartment and office in the same, newly built building, the exterior of which was in accordance with the King´s County Court in Dolnja Lendava. An older house on the street Glavna ulica was demolished and in its stead, between 1907 and 1908, a new family house in a sophisticated bourgeois style was built (today, this very same building is the headquarters of the Lendava public library). In his new home, Laubhaimer often hosted local intellectuals. Dr. Oskar Laubhaimer was also named as member of the supervisory board and, later, also as member of the board of governors of Dolnjelendavska hranilnica, that is the Savings Bank of Dolnja Lendava. He was known as a benefactor of local causes and supported the local Bourgeois School for Boys. He died on December 20th, 1918, in Dolnja Lendava.
