Itinerary
Museum of Bourgeoisie, Printing and Umbrella Manufacture
Lendava has a colourful and rich past. Consequently, one of the former bourgeoisie houses on Glavna ulica was turned into the Museum of Bourgeoisie, Printing and Umbrella Manufacture of Dolnja Lendava where the permanent exhibitions tell the history of the Lendava bourgeoisie, printing, umbrella manufacture and the apothecary.
The Belfry of Saint Florian
Next to the main road in Dolga vas stands the belfry of St. Florian, which was built in 1924 in the place of the former wooden belfry. The façade of the belfry bears a painting of Saint Florian, its patron saint.
The Jewish Cemetery
Continuing along the main road, not far away from the belfry, is the location of the only Jewish cemetery in Prekmurje and one of the largest of its kind in Slovenia. The cemetery is still being taken care of. The gravestones, facing towards Jerusalem, are engraved with names in Latin and Hebrew.
Vinarium Lookout Tower
The 53.5m high, circular-shaped tower stretches towards the sky with its ten floors. The observation deck at the top enables you to see views of four countries: Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and Austria. In the square in front of the tower, you can choose from the rich local culinary offerings.
Piramida/Lármafa Peak
On the hills of Lendava, at 328 metres above sea level, stands the building known as Piramida in Slovenian, or Lármafa in Hungarian, which offers breath-taking views of the wider region and its splendours. In the hikers´ box at the tower you can find the stamp for the ˝Pomurje Hiking Trail˝.
Lovers’ Bench
The lovers’ benches are spread across Slovenia´s 19 settlements´ most attractive viewpoints. One of these is embraced by the arms of the vineyards in the Lendava hills. Its aim and mission are to evoke the thought of humans living in harmony with nature, suggest spending active time in nature and, on top of all that, it also offers a breath-taking vista.
The Chapel of the Holy Trinity and the Mummy of Mihael Hadik
One of the paths that winds through the vineyards leads to the Chapel of the Holy Trinity where one can see the mummy of army general Mihael Hadik in a glass coffin. According to legend, he was a hero who battled the Turks around 1600 in the army led by Kristóf Bánffy.
The Castle and the Gallery-Museum of Lendava
On the hill above the town stands the castle, which has played a significant role throughout the history of the area. Since 1973, the castle has been home to the Gallery-Museum of Lendava where, apart from the permanent exhibitions displaying the area´s historically significant exhibits, relics, characteristics and traditions, one can also see various temporary exhibitions.
The Former Bourgeois School Building
One of the most significant historical buildings in Lendava is the former State bourgeois school, built in a clear classicism style. The school was a ‘first-of-its-kind’ in the region and was opened in a celebratory event in 1896.
The Parish Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria
The spiritual centre of Lendava’s Roman Catholic residents got its present form in 1751. In the church square, three statues are erected: a statue of St. Florian; a statue of St. Stephen, in honour of the millennium of the founding of the Hungarian state; and a statue of Anton Martin Slomšek, the former bishop of Maribor.
