The Opening Ceremony of the Ethnographical House in Dolina

On the 10th of November, the ceremonial opening of the Ethnographical House in Dolina took place. Years of effort by the Hungarian Self-Governing National Community of the Municipality of Lendava have now come to bear fruit and, therefore, a community house could be established in the Lendava area that can satisfy the needs of the active Hungarian national community too. The project started in 2018 and is the biggest project that the Hungarian Self-Governing National Community of the Municipality of Lendava has ever implemented. The investment was funded by both the Slovenian Government and the Hungarian Government. The property in Dolina was bought in 2018 while the extensive reconstruction work started in 2019.
At the opening ceremony, the attendees were greeted by Judit Vida Törnar, President of the Council of the Hungarian Self-Governing National Community of the Municipality of Lendava, and Tomi Horvat, Vice-president of the Hungarian Self-Governing National Community of the Municipality of Lendava. The latter emphasised in his inaugural speech that the vision of the Hungarian Self-Governing National Community of the Municipality of Lendava was to set up an ethnographical house that would become filled with activities. Therefore, they will strive to bring life within its walls and to make the ethnographical house an integral part of the everyday life of the settlement. That is why the house, in addition to its museal area, also incorporates space where workshops, educational programmes, camps, presentations and many other activities can take place.
As part of the ceremony, the local folk singers sang an assortment of folk songs. After viewing the ethnographical house, visitors could also try their handicraft skills in one of the workshops on offer at the location.
