Festival of the Perec

In 2026, the Cultural Association Trimlini organised, for the sixth time, the Festival of the Perec, one of the region’s most popular events dedicated to preserving local traditions. Held at the local cultural centre, the festival focuses on the traditional craft of making perec: the classic round perec or the so-called nádas perec (the latter is braided onto a reed stick which is removed after baking). The event brings together the local community, amateur and professional perec bakers, as well as everyone committed to preserving and passing on this culinary heritage.
The festival begins in the morning with a perec-making workshop, where participants can learn the techniques of shaping and baking perec. In the afternoon, the spotlight turns to the competition, with participants entering in two categories: round perec and the so-called nádas perec. Each contestant submits three samples to a professional jury, which evaluates the perec according to their appearance, texture and taste. The best entries are then selected from among the submitted samples.
A cultural programme and the ceremonial announcement of the results further strengthen the community spirit of the event. The festival is not merely about competition, but also about spending time together, preserving traditions and celebrating as a community. Each year, the Festival of the Perec demonstrates that local heritage truly comes alive when it is cherished by a close-knit community.
